Eastern Rosella

EASTERN ROSELLA

General

Rosellas are colourful parakeets bought to New Zealand as cage birds that escaped and breed in the wild. They are usually found in pairs or small flocks. They are noisy with a distinct call.

Bright colourful long tailed parrot, with crimson, yellow, blue and green feathers.

Distribution

At Cornwall Park they can be seen in most areas although they do like the trough adjacent to the restaurant and the cherry trees. Rosellas favour light wooded habitats but use forest and urban parks and gardens.

Food

They feed on a wide range of shoots, buds, fruits and flowers.

Voice

Loud ringing 'kwink kwink' calls and chattering notes.
